National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities to student youth of +2 level, Technical Institutions, Graduate and Post Graduate levels to participate in various community service activities and programmes.
The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service. Since its inception in 1969, the NSS has grown from 40,000 students to more than 3.8 million volunteers across universities, colleges, and institutions of higher learning.

The National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year (1969) in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students, with a primary focus on the overall personality development of students through community service.
Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers
spread across 298 Universities and
42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils throughout the country.
Since its inception, more than
3.75 crore students have benefited from NSS activities.

Recent NSS Activities
- Special Camp organised from 25.09.2012 to 10.12.2012 at SBSS College on various social issues.
- NSS Day celebrated on 24.09.2012, creating awareness about different aspects of social service.
- Bhagat Singh Jayanti celebrated on 23.03.2012 with Essay, Speech, and Painting competitions.
- Seminar organised on 18.05.2012 on the occasion of “Aatankbad Virodh Diwas”.
- Seminar organised on 11.07.2012 on World Pollution Day.
- Blood Donation Day organised on 21.05.2012, where volunteers donated blood along with the Programme Officer.
- World AIDS Day Seminar organised on 01.12.2012.
- Seminar organised on 02.02.2014 on the occasion of Lalit Narayan Mishra Jayanti.
